Who We Are

The South Pacific Association of Theological Schools (SPATS) , was founded in 1969 to promote the development of theological education in the Pacific region. It is an ecumenical organization with its purpose to serve and enhance theological education in the south part of Pacific in the global south.
SPATS is an independent non-profit interdenominational (ecumenical) organization. It runs four programs (Accreditation & Quality Assurance, Women, Capacity Building and publication) and is responsible for ensuring and improving the quality of education deliverance across the 23 member colleges and college universities across the region. All these four programs functions to serve theological schools in upholding of moral and spiritual values in across the 13-member state islands across the South Pacific Ocean.
On international level, SPATS is recognized by the World Organization of Christian Associations in Theological Institutions (WOCATI). On regional level, SPATS also earned recognition from the Evaluation Qualification Assessment Program (EQAP) the former South Pacific Board of Education and Assessment (SPBEA). This recognition verifies SPATS to be a reliable determiner of institutional quality and integrity and thus permits accredited institutions to seek various forms of student aid.
